Oops, they did it again: Royals drop another stinkfest

Last night’s Royals game was a royal bummer. And a dud. And a colossal waste of a fantastic pitching performance by Yordana “Ace” Ventura. Here are some notes from the game:

  • The Royals still have not hit a home run. Seven games and counting folks. No one on the team is displaying anything that remotely resembles power. In fact, everyone except for Salvador Perez is hitting like their bats are made out of limp celery. Right now, every team has at least 3 home runs. Dayton Moore, remind me again how the Royals NOT hitting home runs fits into your 8-year plan to reach the playoffs?

  • Wil Myers stuck out three times against Ace Ventura. But then he scored the winning run against Greg Holland, after he reached base on a pathetic little dribbler towards the 3rd base gap, then advanced to second when Salvy couldn’t handle a slider from Holland that basically landed in the Rays dugout. I would rather Myers hit 4 home runs and the Royals win.

  • Mike Moustakas finally got his first hit of the season. It only took him 24 at-bats. At the hot corner, a position that typically comes with some power (for instance, Adrian Beltre of the Texas Rangers), the Royals have a grand total of ONE hit. Even Alcides Escobar now has 4 hits, including a 3-run double.
  • Surprisingly, the Royals have actually batted in more runs than the Padres and the Braves. They rank 22 out of 30 teams with 57 total hits. And not a single one of them is a home run.

  • The Royals have the 9th best ERA in the Majors at 2.86. BUT THEIR BULLPEN HAS DIRECTLY BEEN RESPONSIBLE FOR THEIR 4 LOSSES. We should have traded Greg Holland for Giancarlo Stanton.

  • The Royals record when they score 4 or more runs = 3-0. The Royals record when they score 3 or less = 0-4. The Royals win percentage has not been above .500 at any point yet this season.

With numbers like these, I question myself every other day why I am a Royals fan. This was supposed to be THE YEAR. It is looking like it will be MORE TEARS.
To end on a positive note, Sporting KC is tied for 5th place in the Supporters ‘ Shield Race.
