12 Days of Chiefsmas, 2019

Ahhhh, Chiefsmas Eve has arrived.

Sit back, kick your feet back (watch the world get bushwacked), and enjoy Santa's birthday. Lol, jk, I know we are really celebrating Rudolph's birthday.

The 2019 Chiefs season has been a glorious affair, filled with lots of ups (Tyrann Mathieu beasting out on defense, Travis Kelce setting all time NFL records) and some ugly downs (Mahomes' dislocated kneecap, and how did this team lose to the Colts?!), and has culminated in a 4th straight division title, 5th straight playoff season, 7th straight winning season, and another beautiful season from reigning MVP Patrick Mahomes.

As per my annual tradition, below are the 12 Days of Chiefsmas to commemorate this wonderful ride, complete with a short video. Merry Chiefsmas to all!

On the 12th Day of Chiefsmas, the Chiefs gave to me:
On the 11th Day of Chiefsmas, Chris Jones gave to me:
On the 10th Day of Chiefsmas, the Chiefs gave to me:
On the 9th Day of Chiefsmas, the Chiefs offense gave to me:
(D-Rob, Sammy, Tyreek, Hardman, Pringle, Kelce, Williams, McCoy, and Williams)
On the 8th Day of Chiefsmas, Patrick gave to me:
On the 7th Day of Chiefsmas, Andy Reid gave to me:
(Andy Reid has 7th most victories in NFL history with 205, currently)
On the 6th Day of Chiefsmas, the Chiefs offense gave to me:
(Never forget Kelce running in the GW score in the Wildcat vs NE)
On the 5th Day of Chiefsmas, the Chiefs gave to me:
(Chiefs locked up the division and a playoff spot with a win against OAK)
On the 4th Day of Chiefsmas, Kansas City gave to me:
(The AFC West record is 5 straight set by Denver - KC is almost there!)
On the 3rd Day of Chiefsmas, the Chiefs defense gave to me:
(Suck a big fat fart Tom)
On the 2nd Day of Chiefsmas, the Chiefs offense gave to me:
(Matt Moore was admirable when filling in for Mahomes - 4 TDs and 0 INTs)
On the 1st Day of Chiefsmas, the Chiefs defense gave to me:
(Juan Thornhill has really shown his talent!)

And putting them all together with music!

Happy Holidays to all!

A White Royals Christmas

Haven't posted in a while, and I forgot how much fun it was to post about the Royals on here back when they were good. Although they still need pitching (!), they should be better in 2020 than last year (59-103 ugh), and they recently signed a new bat to pair with Jorge Soler. Should be lots of bombs at The K next year!

While I am in the festive spirit, I wanted to share my version of White Christmas with a Royals flavor. A toast to you and yours this holiday season!
(I'm dreaming of a Frank White Christmas, Just like the ones from '85)
(Where those treetops glisten and children listen, to hear sleigh bells on old #5)
(Then I, I, I am dreaming of an LF on a Shelf)
(With every base that Mondi swipes)
(May your days be merry and bright, and may Christmas at The K be White)

Merry Christmas to all!

A visit from Pat

'Twas the night before the Chiefs season and all through the city,
No one could sleep in anticipation of seeing BDP

The #15 jerseys were hung on the doors with care
In hopes they would soon see Patrick's iconic hair

Children were nestled all snug in their beds
While visions of Mahomes Magic Crunch danced in their heads
Momma laid out her Oakleys and I found my Zubaz
Ready to watch the Chiefs throttle the Jags!

When out on the Internet there arose such a clatter
I fired up my Twitter to see what was the matter

Away to my notifications I clicked in a hurry
Checked my mentions to see if I should worry

The news was trending like a fast-spreading meme
Disdain and anger were all that it seemed

ESPN and Rapsheet both had the report
New England signed AB; I let out a snort

"That guy's just a diva, even though he can ball"
I whispered as I thought, "This isn't good at all"

But soon in a pinch, a thought came to mind
Someone could save us, all in good time

He was muscular and strong, a right jolly old fellow
He wore a headband and looked good in red and yellow
He put ketchup on steak, which seems kind of weird
Only 23 years old, and he can't grow a beard!
His voice was froggish, his hair like a mop
But he makes plays on the field that no one could top

A wink of his eye and a flick of his wrist
Soon puts his stats at the top of the list

I knew then and there in my little old dome
We had nothing to fear because we had Mahomes

We hadn't seen Patrick throw in a week
Would he no-look it to Kelce, or launch it to Reek?
I thought of these questions as I lay down to bed
Didn't care about AB, the Pats would soon be dead

Patrick's our QB, we will be all right
Merry Opening Day to all and to all a good night!

Kansas City, everywhere

Recently, the Visit KC twitter account made a KC hype video that has been making the rounds on the internet (including a semi-viral tweet from me).

That video, which shows some of KC's coolest and hottest fun spots, got me thinking about how the city is booming and quickly becoming a must-see bucket list item for anyone who has not been here. (The video also has also helped many Kansas Citians realize how much or little they actually do in their city - time to get out and explore!)

It also got me thinking about what other people know about KC, and how KC has been portrayed in the media around the USA and world. Then I realized that KC has recently been seen in some capacity in numerous movies and TV shows, and I thought I would compile a short list here for your enjoyment. Enjoy, and if you have other suggestions, let me know!

1. I will start with a big one - The Sandlot! This 1993 film showcased the KC Monarchs via one of the main characters, who wore a Monarchs hat throughout the film. Very cool!

2. A little more recently, Superman: Man of Steel from 2013, prominently showed the Royals on the title character. Can you imagine if he were a Royal? This was before the 2014-15 World Series seasons, so apparently he was not needed.
3. In the 1998 film Baseketball, Jenny McCarthy is seen cleaning a floor with a Chiefs poster int he background. The Chiefs had just come off of a 13-3 season with Super Bowl hopes, so it is fitting that they were popular at the time.
4. One of my personal favorites is the 1990 film Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, in which one of the foot ninjas was wearing a Royals hat. Probably inspired by Bo Jackson!
5. In 2013, the film We're the Millers included Jason Sudeikis wearing an Arthur Bryant t-shirt - gotta rep that delicious BBQ!
6. Snickers created a hilarious commercial in 1997 that makes you wonder if this has ever happened at Arrowhead!

7. The 2010 TV series Outsourced featured a main character who was from Kansas City, and they showed overhead shots of the city in the opening credits. Unfortunately I could not find video or image proof of this so you will have to take me for my word.

8. In the 2018 KC Comic Con, actor Jason Momoa was seen wearing a Chiefs jersey. Momoa is famous for his roles as Khal Drogo and Aquaman.
I am sure I am missing tons of examples of KC being inserted into movies, and shows and even songs. Let me know what you have seen - Where else has KC been portrayed?!
