#RoyalsInFirst

The Royals are in first place! THE ROYALS ARE IN FIRST PLACE! I do not care that the Douche-troit Tigers are technically in first place, a mere .005 percentage points ahead of the Royals (see below). No one cares about the Tigers and their crappy city. The Royals are now 8-7, the first time they have had a winning percentage over .500 this season.
Their win against the stupid Twins last night was more like it. They played like the team everyone expected at the beginning of the season. By which I mean they beat an inferior opponent easily. Good teams beat crappy teams, and the Royals need to continue doing so if they hope to reach the playoffs. There were so many positives from the game:

  • Jason Vargas was a STUD. He threw 4 strikeouts in 7 innings. He has lasted 7 innings in all 4 of his starts this year, and he currently ranks #6 in the American League in ERA at 1.24. I LOVE THE ROYALS PITCHING RIGHT NOW.
  • The Royals pitchers combined to throw the Royals first shutout of the season. Against a pretty decent offense too - the Twins were averaging 5.7 runs per game before BEING SHUTOUT BY JUSTIN VARGAS.
  • Mike Moustakas hit his second home run of the season. Who saw that coming?! The home run was ridiculous. It was maybe 15 feet high, a rocket shot that sailed straight over the fence in one of the few displays of power he has shown this season. I enjoyed watching him punish the stupid Twins.
  • Alcides Escobar went 3-3 at the plate and now has the second highest batting average on the team (.294). WHO SAW THAT COMING? He has been a beast at the plate lately, with 15 total hits and 4 doubles this season. He has been a huge contributor to the Royals recent success.
  • The Royals continued their trend of winning when they score at least 4 runs. They are 8-0 in games they score at least 4 runs and 0-7 in games they score 3 or less. They are now averaging about 3.5 runs per game. Imagine their record if they can boost that average to 4 runs per game. THEY WILL WIN LIKE 120 GAMES.
It is times like these that are enjoyable as a fan. We may or may not make the playoffs but at least we have had a decent stretch when we can say we are in first place. I hope the Blue Jays, Angels, and Rangers do some work against the Indians, Tigers and White Sox today and the Royals extend their winning streak to 5 games. Bruce Chen takes the mound for the Royals today and I would love to hear some Chen Music echoing throughout Kauffman.
