The Royals defeated the Padres for a second game in a row
Wednesday afternoon and it was glorious. They played what Ned Yost termed an “AAGG
– All Around Good Game,” winning 8-0 behind 14 hits.
We need to make AAGG part of baseball lingo, and the Royals
need to make it part of their day-to-day OP. They should put it in the Royals Operating
Procedures Manual:
I am guessing that they decided to play an AAGG because they
knew most ordinary people are working on Wednesday afternoons and therefore
would not be able to watch them and criticize their terrible base running and
questionable manager decisions (or lack thereof). They tried to sneak one past
us all but I WAS TOO SMART AND I SAW THOSE BASE RUNNING BLUNDERS AND I AM GOING
TO CRITICIZE THE HECK OUT OF THEM MUAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!
Raise your hand if you think it was Eric Hosmer who had a base
running blunder?
Now raise your hand if you think Mike Moustakas had several
hits and played like the beast we drafted him to be?
Thought so. These Royals can be so darn predictable.
But really, aside from Hosmer’s minor gaffe, the Royals
played almost flawlessly (AAGG remember?). Everyone had at least one hit
(except for Moose and James Shields), and Shields (along with Aaron Crow and
Louis Coleman) got their third shutout of the season. Shields’ ERA stands at
2.70 (Crow’s is still unbelievably 0.000000). Hosmer made up for his poor
running by pounding out 3 hits and 4 RBI’s, raising his batting average to .306
like a boss. I love that guy but he needs to hit some more bombs so his base
running doesn't hurt the Royals.
Also, in what is possibly the greatest start to a game ever,
a dinosaur threw out the first pitch at Petco Park. Really. See the video
below. Isn’t that fantastic? I love baseball! The only thing that would have made today any better was if the dinosaur ate the Padres Friar mascot. Maybe we will see that in Godzilla next weekend?
Two more wins and the Royals are back to respectability. Let’s
do this.
